Bloom Wild - pink and red version

Alright. I say this about every quilt. But this one is my favorite.

This quilt is a personal project for me (Rebecca) - it was supposed to be a holiday quilt for my family this winter but as my friends enjoy pointing out...I'm really bad at Christmas themes. I notoriously use all sorts of colors in my holiday decorating...but especially pink.

So yeah...this quilt has flowers. And it's heavily pink. And one might accuse me of making more of a Valentine's quilt...as one did...but it has RED and GINGERBREAD MEN so it's most obviously a Christmas quilt.

I appreciate your support. I tried. I got distracted by flowers. It's now an all seasons fixture on my couch and I ain't mad.

This project came together slowly - I knew I wanted very specific tones of red and pink and it took me awhile to find and collect what I needed. The fabrics for this one are from all over. They came from several different quilt shops, my stash, and even a late quilter's estate. I couldn't replicate it if I tried...I love it when a personal quilt turns out that way!

All the colors were pulled from this plaid - I usually am pretty good with fabric lines but this one is long gone from my memory. It was the perfect cranberry, orangey red, and pink. I stuck to those colors, no white backgrounds, and chose prints of the same scale for everything except the accent prints (the flowers). I enjoy mixing loose florals with more structured prints, so I made sure to get both.

The background is another mystery yardage from the estate sale - it's definitely some sort of lightweight chambray. It was a bit of a bear to work with but the results are incredibly soft and supple. 10/10.

I put this on the longarm and used our trusty stipple stencil over a red minky backing. My girls immediately claimed it as the couch quilt - I love wide quilts for snuggling the kids.

I've made two Bloom Wild quilts now with prints - I adore the pinks and greens solids versions just as much, but I'm really thrilled this pattern carries both styles so beautifully and balanced!

I'm stinking proud of this quilt. Have you made one? We'd love to see!

Happy sewing,
Rebecca and Cait
