Cabin Frost Baby in Pure Solids
This quilt was extra special to make, because it was for the first baby boy to be born on my (Rebecca) side of the family in this generation! My sister finally broke the girl streak after my mom got five granddaughters over a span of 11 years!
I love choosing either Cabin Frost or Bloom Wild for baby quilts when there's already a young sibling - mama is going to have a newborn and toddler in her lap, so the generous baby sizes of these two patterns is perfect for a lapful of wiggly kids.

My favorite part of this project was working through the colors I wanted to use - while neither Cait nor I have strict definitions of "gendered colors" I knew I wanted to differentiate his quilt from his big sister's pink floral quilts, so I went in an entirely different direction. I challenged myself to avoid the dusty blues and grays that are so prominent in baby boy decor. I adore a good dusky palette so it was a fun creative flex to work with vibrancy instead!

I used all Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids for the colors and a stashed black crossweave for the background. Sadly, I have no idea where it came from anymore, but it was juuuuuust enough! I prefer to avoid white backgrounds on baby quilts...for obvious reasons...

I was in a rush to get this finished before a surprised baby sprinkle so it was the big stipple quilting again for a smooth, fast finish. I backed it with the same color Cait used on her son's baby Amaryllis quilt: Shannon Cuddle in Mallard. It's such a perfectly gorgeous deep teal!

Lucky for me, this quilt beat the baby by a mere two days! I can't wait to head back to Indiana to meet my nephew and snuggle him and my sweet niece on their couch.
Baby quilts are my favorite projects, hands down. I'm grateful to have had another opportunity to make one for my family.
Happy sewing!
Rebecca and Cait
