Bloom Wild in Purple and Green Solids

Truth is - this quilt was a happy accident! Channeling our best interpretation of Bob Ross we covered up the frustration of a mistake and made a quilt out of it!

When when originally designed the cover quilt for Bloom Wild, we found ourselves out of Kona bright white background (the white we use for all our pattern cover samples). Not thinking...and trying to be good stewardesses of our local community...we headed down to our local store and bought more white background but from a different manufacturer.

Friends, white is not a color. It's at least 281 different colors and each manufacturer has their own shades of white - what we bought clashed horribly with all the other pattern cover quilts we have made so far and regularly display side by side in person at shows!!

As if that alone isn't bad enough, we didn't realize the mistake until Cait had already sewn ALL the blocks! All those curves! But as we say often - "to sew is to rip" - and she ripped every single one of those blocks apart. Ripping apart the curves was more than even she could handle, so she saved the curves with their off color background for another project and reused the color strip sets with new background we ordered...in the correct color this time!

We now had finished Bloom Wild curves and background cut out for another throw size...so we grabbed some greens off our shelf and made this fun bonus version!

Rebecca happens to have a very happy plant in her studio sporting this same color combo!

We managed to snag some of our favorite minky on sale at On Pins and Needles. Rebecca long-armed this one with the same edge-to-edge stencil from Hancy Creations that was used on the original pink cover sample.

Then in true form to the way this quilt has come together, we stole the binding from the quilt sample currently on Cait's cutting table because it's a perfect match to the greens we already used! This gave the quilt that bold pop of color to frame out the white background. This was so much more than a stash quilt, more of what we would call a beg, borrow, and steal quilt!! It never ceases to amaze us how these quilts come to life in the end.

Be sure to check out the cover quilt and scrappy version of Bloom Wild as well!

Happy Sewing!
