Southern Amaryllis Green and Pink version
I've had a habit recently of accidently making quilts...Cait and I planned to make the scrappy Amaryllis cover quilt and the baby uniform version showing the triangle modification...but alas, I found fabric on sale...and, well...as Cait will tell you a quilt just magically happened over a long weekend!
Truthfully - I've never made a quilt where all the blocks matched! I adore Cait's baby Amaryllis she made and it made me really itchy to have a uniform version of my own. I built the entire color scheme around that beautiful red floral from Maven by Maureen Cracknell. While Cait's quilt featured a large scale floral, I wanted to show this pattern works with small scale fabrics as well. Definitely a successful showing!
Fabric details:
- A: Navy - from Maven by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics
- B and accent: Green - from Soul Fusion for AGF
- C and binding: from Maven by Maureen Cracknell for AGF
- D: Pink - from Seedlings by Katerina Roccella for AGF
- Background: Confetti Cottons by Riley Blake in Cloud
- Backing: Shannon Cuddle minky in Evergreen
Just a reminder, this pattern has an option for modifying the curved pieces to half-square triangles. We also put together an Amaryllis Curves Tutorial for those of you who are new to cutting and piecing curves. Amaryllis is a great first-curve pattern with forgiving sashing built in so you don't have to line up any points or curved seams.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this - it was a delight to chain piece and not worry about keeping blocks organized. I love scrappy quilts but I'm so glad we have written options into our patterns!
It's backed in green minky and while I was tempted to quilt the same organic wavy lines I used on the linen cover sample, Cait talked me into the leaf stencil she used on the baby version. She's a smart woman - it's not only a gorgeous pattern but it was so enjoyable to do on our long-arm!
This quilt is so light and summery - to counter the weight of the minky I used a very thin loft cotton backing (Quilter's Dream Request) and AGF cotton is relatively thin compared to many other quilting cottons. It is already a staple on our couch.
Happy sewing!
- Rebecca
