QAYG Pocket Pillow in Snuggles flannel

At the beginning of this entire adventure together, Cait and I were going through the legacy patterns from my previous brand. I pointed to the Quilt-As-You-Go pocket pillows and said....."I despise sewing zippers in pillows. Let alone making zipper graphics. I need your help with this one."

Months later, this project has been simmering in the background until we could throw all of Cait's expertise, proper design software (a painful, but necessary transition), and some fun new fabric at an improved pattern. And we are SO excited to say it's here!

If you've never tried, or just plain curious about, the quilt-as-you-go method, this is a great project for beginners or dabblers. The pocket patchwork is sewn in this way, then you have the choice of an envelope back (for those who despise zippers or looking for a quick, clean finish) or a beautifully written section for inserting a hidden zipper in the bottom seam. (Not an invisible zipper, mind you...that's something entirely different! Thank goodness for Cait.)

The pattern has three pocket variations - a horizontal stripe, a diagonal stripe, and a patchwork squares pocket. As we were using our leftover fabric from our flannel Southern Amaryllis baby quilt, we opted for the patchwork squares - it was a great use of scraps! Cait couldn't resist adding a happy little moon to the back!

Since I'm not the biggest fan of, nor that experienced with, zippers in seams Cait of course made me test her directions. I can say with certainty that a confident sewist that has put in a zipper or two - however clumsily - can handle this zippered seam. Her method of hiding is clean and beautiful!

This pillow will be headed to the Handmade shop to be sold as a set with the baby quilt - it's bittersweet that that neither of us have small babes anymore!
