First Crush in Alma and Golden Hour

Sometimes, I just need to sew something. This quilt was actually made during that doldrum month of the year for me - January....of 2023! The chaos and bustle and joy of the Thanksgiving - Christmas season was over. We were building up a new business and brand, which involves waaaaaaaay more computer work than sewing, unfortunately. And I just...well, I got itchy and needed something I could sew quickly.

Turns out, I have made two First Crush quilts in the past - but gifted them both! I had a few charm packs of Golden Hour by Ruby Star Society sitting on the shelf without a plan so I grabbed them and some yardage of a navy print from the same collection and started cutting out 5" squares.

Now, I don't typically collect quilt tops. But with the sewing itch scratched and a new brand to tend to, this top sat patiently for seven months before it got it's turn on our long-arm.

Truthfully - I had planned a minky back for this quilt...but stole what I bought for it twice and used it for other projects before I scored a buttery soft cotton lyocell sheet set at Ikea on clearance and changed ideas...and then the sheet ended up being too short and I ended up re-ordering the original color of minky I had planned for all along!

Cait quilted it beautifully with a large stipple stencil and I bound it with a random navy Art Gallery Fabrics basic I had sitting around - I'm very much a fabric squirrel and enjoy using what I have for these random projects I end up with.

This is the throw size, and it passed my husband's stringent length test. The weather finally turned cool and I traded my summery pink and green quilt for these fall-colors on my couch already. It's the perfect size for me and my two little girls to snuggle under to watch a movie.

Happy sewing!

Rebecca

Outtakes from the photoshoot...these minky quilts are heavy and hard to tape to the wall!
