First Crush - Scrappy version
We are nearing the end of our massive re-coloring of all the legacy patterns Rebecca brought in when we formed The June Thimble - and as we've been tackling each pattern, we've been improving and expanding them along the way. First Crush now has brand new samples to highlight the pattern expansion last summer to include three color variations!
First Crush is a simple, beginner friendly disappearing nine patch pattern. You can find tutorials and basic patterns for this block/quilt a dime a dozen. So rather than reinvent the wheel, we decided to bring you different ways of playing with print and colors in our pattern for this classic design.
This is the "scrappy version" of First Crush - a truly mix and match confetti of color! The beauty in it is you don't have to plan much, just start sewing up blocks and let the magic happen.

This one was quilted with a feathery, loopy stencil design from Hancy Creations. They make it so each to stencil and chalk a design to follow when you're freehanding on the long-arm!

This inspiration for this sample series came completely from that backing! Cait picked up this gorgeous duvet cover from Ikea and we chose all our colors from it. I love when we design a quilt backwards! The best part is after cutting the duvet cover in two, we had enough fabric to back two samples - you know backings can get pricey, so we love using this strategy when we can.

Here's a picture of all three versions in the pattern - the rainbow on the wall is the "accented version", plus the scrappy and tri-color versions on the ladder. You can read about each of those in their own post.

Take it from us - "beginner quilts" are for all skill levels! This was such a fun exercise in playing with color, we hope you enjoy it just as much as we have!
Happy sewing!
Rebecca and Cait
