First Crush - Accented Rainbow version
This might be one of my personal favorite set of pattern samples...and Cait gets 100% of the credit for it. The woman has an eye for rainbows.
But before we get into how this beautiful colorway was chosen, let's start with what it is! This quilt is the "accented version" of our First Crush pattern. First Crush is a simple, beginner friendly disappearing nine patch pattern. You can find tutorials and basic patterns for this block/quilt a dime a dozen. So rather than reinvent the wheel, we decided to bring you different ways of playing with print and colors in our pattern for this classic design.

Not only does the pattern include sizes baby-king, but we also include three different color variations to play with: a truly scrappy version, a tri-color version, and this accented version that uses a single color for the smaller squares to unify the design throughout the quilt. You can read more about the other versions in their own posts!

Like I said - this was all Cait's idea. All I did was text-shout RAINBOW RAINBOW RAINBOW when she sent me two layout options.
My enthusiasm cast a convincing vote.

This one was quilted with a big stipple stencil on our long-arm. We love the pounce pad stencils from Hancy Creations for freehand long-arming.

Oh! I promised to tell you where these colors came from! Cait bought this duvet cover at Ikea, brought it work, and we immediately decided it would be the inspiration for the upcoming First Crush samples. We sat there with our color chips and matched each one to colors in this beautiful floral. I love it when we design the quilt backwards!

The best part about using a duvet cover for a quilt backing, is we get two for one! So the Scrappy version sample also has a matching backing.

This was such a fun, beautiful series to put together. Our goal is to help you take this classic block and make something truly special and unique to you!
Happy sewing!
Rebecca and Cait
