Grow Wild - Rainbow version

I’m not sure where the rainbow theme is coming from, honestly bright colors are not my usual thing. I’m well known for wearing mostly black and my house is mostly white so two quilts in bold rainbow colors is totally out of the ordinary. But I’m obsessed! The first rainbow was for the first quilt in our wild series, Wild Soul. It was a fast and fun project, and I could already see how the rainbow would look with the second in the wild series - Grow Wild.

I was already on the hunt for another fabric line with a good rainbow jelly roll like the Ruby Star I used in Wild Soul. But while out fabric shopping for an entirely different quilt project I came across this fun hearts and stars collection by Andover Fabrics, grabbed the right number of fat quarters, and I was off and running.

The wild series quilts are great for jelly rolls because they use 2 1/2 inch strips, but they are also just as great for fat quarters. *and out she whips her stripology ruler*

Grow Wild, like Wild Soul, is set on point. But unlike Wild Soul it has sashing throughout to differentiate each block. I chose to use white with black for the center of the sashing and when all sewn and assembled it looked a bit like stained glass windows. The sashing fabrics came from my giant stash of Kona white and black.

For backing I wanted minky again to match the Wild Soul, but this time went with a bright blue called Belize from Shannon Fabrics.

And then again on theme, quilted it with the same big stipple stencil on the long arm. I have to say there is a noticeable difference in the quilting from Wild Soul, which was only my second quilt on the long arm, to this one which is number 6! It’s not perfect but it’s getting better!

This quilt is already a much-loved addition to our home.

Happy sewing!
