Arrowwood Tote Bag - Rifle Garden Party
Our first launched bag pattern - the Arrowwood Tote! Cait and I are both absolute bag lovers - so it was a natural progression to merge quilting with our favorite bag features!
I started drafting the Arrowwood Tote because I wanted one bag to rule them all - taking bits and pieces from my extensive bag collection and combining them into one tote. Zippered pockets to keep small items from falling to the bottom. A key ring to hold sunglasses or keys from getting lost or squished at the bottom. Side pockets big enough for TWO water bottles...for both the kids. And most importantly, it had to fit two lunchboxes...at the same time. Oh and a laptop.
But what's a good bag if it's no fun to sew? A lot of care went into making sure the construction was simple, intuitive, and enjoyable. Yet still detailed enough that you canto make your own customization with free motion quilting, fun fabric, or check out our free tutorials for a patchwork squares or block insert versions! (Coming soon!)
We quilted this version with a 1 1/2" 60 degree diamond pattern on the main panels and 3/4" straight lines on the side panel. We chose natural colored cotton webbing in an easy to source 1 1/2" webbing, standard size coil zippers, and simple antique brass hardware.
This bag was a best seller from our Handmade shop. Having made about 15 of them it's our most thoroughly tested pattern yet and field tested by dozens! This bag has traveled by car and plane, run more errands, kids playdates and work days then we can count. And for all the bags I've made up to this point I can still say with certainty that it's still just as much fun to sew now as it was when we first designed it.
