Calendula - scrappy version in Kona

In my head, I call this the Pool Day quilt. Cait aptly calls it the Seaglass quilt. I think when we designed the color bundle for this solids sample of Calendula we were both feeling ready for summer break!

Calendula is our most traditional pattern - Irish chain quilts are classic. But it's also our most flexible pattern with two variations and a block modification, allowing for totally different styles and suitable for all skill levels! We point to this quilt for brand new quilters looking for their first pattern.

This quilt is the scrappy version - it only needs five fat quarters (or a layer cake!) and some yardage for the chain, and distributes that print evenly across the quilt. The uniform version makes for a two or three color quilt - keep it classic or modernize it with fun fabric choices!

Calendula also includes a block modification that changes the square-in-a-square middle to a simple square. I love this option for fussy cut features, large scale fabrics, or novice quilters.

We backed this one in an IKEA duvet cover that had the same seaside feel and Cait quilted with a wavy stencil from Hancy Creations. We freehand everything on our Bernina longarm, and love their stencils!

Search "Calendula" on website to find even more samples of this quilt pattern - we have made several over the years and they all have such different styles!

Happy sewing!

Rebecca and Cait
