Astera in Dawn on the Praire
When Rebecca and I started building up the business together and sorting out the old RebaLeigh brand content into the new June Thimble, I realized she had some great gems hidden away as half started ideas. Astera is one of those gems, and it has now been unearthed and revitalized!
We both decided this stash-busting quick-to-cut-and-sew pattern warranted more then a free tutorial, so we wrote it as a free PDF pattern for our newsletter subscribers. (Not a subscriber yet? But back to this project! I found the Dawn on the Prairie collection by Fancy That Design House while hunting up fabrics for my sons moody baby quilt version of our Southern Amaryllis pattern , the rich yellows in this collection blended beautifully with the large scale florals from the Woodland and Wildflowers collection by the same designer. I wanted to use more of it, especially with fall lurking right around the corner, and this was the excuse I needed. We wanted another sample for the Astera pattern before releasing it.
I also was trying to use up some random minky I had floating around the studio and the colors blended perfectly!
I used this quilt as an opportunity to test a new panto stencil on the long arm - it is a large scale cloud pattern I felt was on theme. Once I got the rhythm of the pattern I really fell in love with it. I'm very happy with how it came out!
By random good luck this quilt goes perfectly with the colors in my guest room, so until I find a different use for it, there it shall remain!
